SEED GRANTS
The Seed Grant Program is designed to facilitate development of research
in the area of healthy cognitive aging research at UIUC, with the
expectation that the seed grant research will lead to larger funded
projects. Grants of up to $20,000 can be made to faculty, $10,000 to
post-doctoral fellows, and $5,000 to graduate students to defray costs in
areas of research promising to further the understanding of factors that
contribute to healthy cognitive aging. Because of the focused nature of
the Center theme, funds can only be provided for research on this topic.
Awards are intended to fund new forays into the investigation of healthy
aging. Applying for these funds does not preclude applying for funds that
are available through other UIUC resources.
WHAT KIND OF RESEARCH IS APPROPRIATE FOR THIS PROGRAM?
Cognitive intervention research; Social psychological research; Human factors research;
Health research; Decision-making research; Engineering solutions to cognitive problems.
Research that furthers the investigation of conditions or interventions
that maintain or increase cognitive health with age is appropriate for the
program. Thus, the types of problems that can be addressed are broad and
could involve, for example, research on social settings or personality
characteristics that contribute to healthy aging, use of positive affect
to improve memory with age, or training programs to maintain skilled
expertise with age. We are unable to fund basic research studies under this particular program.
